Analysis Preliminary Exam Workshop: Distributions and Sobolev Spaces

چکیده
A distribution is a linear functional on a space of test functions. Distributions include all locally integrable functions and have derivatives of all orders (great for linear problems) but cannot be multiplied in any natural way (not so great for nonlinear problems). One can use many different spaces of test functions. We will consider distributions on the space D(Ω) of smooth compactly supported test functions where Ω ⊂ R is an open set (which we call simply “distributions”), distributions on the Schwartz space S(R) of smooth, rapidly decreasing functions (“tempered distributions”), and distributions on the space D(T) of smooth periodic functions (“periodic distributions”).

ACTION OF p ON DISTRIBUTIONS
Action of p ? on distributions is examined in the context of Sobolev spaces, weighted L 2 spaces and weighted Sobolev spaces, respectively. The results obtained are as follows: Let k be a real number. (1) If f is in H

The purpose of this paper is to prove the existence of a renormalized solution of perturbed elliptic problems$ -operatorname{div}Big(a(x,u,nabla u)+Phi(u) Big)+ g(x,u,nabla u) = mumbox{ in }Omega, $ in the framework of Orlicz-Sobolev spaces without any restriction on the $M$ N-function of the Orlicz spaces, where $-operatorname{div}Big(a(x,u,nabla u)Big)$ is a Leray-Lions operator defined f...

متن کاملDispersive Mixed-order Systems in L-sobolev Spaces and Application to the Thermoelastic Plate Equation
We study dispersive mixed-order systems of pseudodifferential operators in the setting of Lp-Sobolev spaces. Under the weak condition of quasihyperbolicity, these operators generate a semigroup in the space of tempered distributions. However, if the basic space is a tuple of Lp-Sobolev spaces, a strongly continuous semigroup is in many cases only generated if p = 2 or n = 1. The results are app...
متن کاملOn a p(x)-Kirchho equation via variational methods
This paper is concerned with the existence of two non-trivial weak solutions for a p(x)-Kirchho type problem by using the mountain pass theorem of Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz and Ekeland's variational principle and the theory of the variable exponent Sobolev spaces.
